There were rumors that the police caused the crash. Camera footage proves those rumors false.
In the early hours of September 2, a Kalamazoo Township police officer was running traffic on the side of a roadway. A blue Dodge Charger suddenly shoots across the officer’s dash-cam going an estimated 100 miles per hour.
The officer flips on his lights and initiates a traffic stop on the Charger. The officer quickly loses sight of the Charger and calls off the pursuit. He radios into dispatch that the Charger is heading towards county jurisdiction. The officer only spent around 30 seconds trying to catch up to the car.
The officer continues at a normal rate of speed and spots a fire on the left side of the road. The driver of the Charger lost control and crashed into a wooded area. It appears that the crash caused the vehicle to immediately burst into flames.
All five occupants inside of the vehicle died. The driver was identified as 15-year-old Corravion Murphy. The other passengers ranged from ages 15 to 17.
It’s clear in the video that the officer was not pursuing the vehicle at the time of the crash.
