The officers feared that the man was running back to pick up the gun he had dropped.
Las Vegas Metropolitan police responded to a naked man with a gun threatening to kill himself this weekend. Officers arrived on scene to find 25-year-old Jason Funke naked and pacing around in front of Life Springs Christian Church.
The police helicopter circling above the incident scene captures Funke drop a black handgun in front of the church. It appears that he complies with officer orders at first, but suddenly turns and run backs towards the gun.
10-year veteran officer Mark Hatten puts one round on Funke, ensuring the naked man didn’t reach the gun. No officers were harmed during the incident.
Funke was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on charges of possession of a dangerous weapon on school or child-care property and indecent exposure.
